Text Box: Two additional items were acted upon during the Annual Meeting. Because of the last two hard winters, we’ve seen some significant changes on our lake. For the first time in over 10 years, we’ve had two consecutive years with no chemical treatment needed. Additionally, only one plant harvest was needed this year, primarily to deal with Chara. And there has been some concern about the fish population, especially after the fish kill in 2008.
So two new committees were created: one to evaluate the predominance of the algae, Chara, and the other to look into fish stocking options/risks. If you are interested in joining either of these committees, please contact any Board member .
We’ll post a draft of the minutes from the Annual meeting, shortly for those who wish greater detail, But contact us at any time if you have questions.

Text Box: By now, most folks have their pontoon boats out –usually the last sure indicator that summer is really over. We hope the new pier at the landing (funded by the Township) made the effort that much easier. The pier was made possible largely through the boat launch fees so when you get a chance, take the time to thank the Jackson Town Board for acting so quickly on this idea.
Last month, as you know, we convened our Annual Meeting so that the 2010 budget could be set and new directors elected. Attendance was fairly low, so the Board hopes that the information contained within, is useful and encourages you to attend future meetings.
In the previous newsletter we set out a budget that proposed to reduce the mill rate and the special charge, due to the existing budget surplus, while keeping the overall budget amount roughly the same.
Text Box: The Membership present voted to maintain the budget as proposed in the previous newsletter.
The initial proposal to reduce the special charge on riparian owners from $125 to $75 was reduced to $25 by an amendment adopted on the floor.
Given the existing surplus, this still means that the mill rate that affects every District member will still go down,. At this time we do not know what the exact mill rate will be but we should know by December, sometime.
There was one open Board position this year and Russ Stearns was voted back in. The Board would like to thank Paul Reed for all his help on the Board and hope he can find the time to come back. Paul did a lot for Peppermill Lake this year. At the same time, it is great to have Russ back on the Board. He brings much knowledge and depth to the Board. So welcome back, again!
